The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 172%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Antigua and Barbuda (X kg) was the largest exporter of aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor or similar gear and parts thereof, constituting 60% of total exports. Jamaica (X kg) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Costa Rica (X kg). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total exports. Argentina (X kg) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Antigua and Barbuda increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Jamaica (+24.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Antigua and Barbuda (+60 p.p.) and Jamaica (+21 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina and Costa Rica saw its share reduced by -10.9% and -70.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest aircraft launching gear supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Antigua and Barbuda ($X), Jamaica ($X) and Argentina ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Jamaica, with a CAGR of +29.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 129%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of aircraft launching gear, deck-arrestor or similar gear and parts thereof were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; jumping by 18% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft launching gear imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. Venezuela represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 48% of total imports. Suriname (X tons) held a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Dominican Republic (12%) and Chile (4.9%). Antigua and Barbuda (X kg), Brazil (X kg) and Costa Rica (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Venezuela increased at an average annual rate of +33.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+67.1%), Antigua and Barbuda (+48.7%), Costa Rica (+34.8%), Chile (+29.9%) and Suriname (+29.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +67.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-22.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Venezuela (+45 p.p.), Suriname (+19 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+12 p.p.), Chile (+4.6 p.p.), Antigua and Barbuda (+4.3 p.p.) and Costa Rica (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-11.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest aircraft launching gear importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Venezuela ($X), Suriname ($X) and Chile ($X), together comprising 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Antigua and Barbuda and Costa Rica, which together accounted for a further 18%.

The Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +47.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -21.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 72%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
