Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +78.4% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported albumins, albuminates and other derivatives (excluding egg albumin) in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 9.6% share.
