In 2019, shipments abroad of alumina was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alumina exports fell modestly to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2019; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018, and then shrank in the following year.
