Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Costa Rica (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of aluminium casks, drums, cans, boxes and similar containers expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Mexico (X units) and Argentina (X units) represented roughly 35% of total imports in 2022. El Salvador (X units) held an 8.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (7.9%), Honduras (6.8%) and Chile (5.6%). The following importers - Costa Rica (X units), Peru (X units), Nicaragua (X units), the Dominican Republic (X units), Ecuador (X units), Paraguay (X units) and Trinidad and Tobago (X units) - together made up 23% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Argentina (with a CAGR of +29.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aluminium cask, drum, can, box and similar container importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Argentina ($X) and Guatemala ($X), together comprising 46% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Argentina, with a CAGR of +25.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year.
