Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, the amount of amine-function compounds exported in Latin America and the Caribbean rose markedly to X tons, growing by 6.8% on 2020 figures. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +49.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, amine-function compounds exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +69.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Mexico was the main exporter of amine-function compounds in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 55% of total exports in 2021. Brazil (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (12%), Panama (8.1%) and Uruguay (7.9%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to amine-function compounds exports from Mexico stood at +2.8%. At the same time, Uruguay (+40.0%), Panama (+33.0%), Colombia (+19.9%) and Brazil (+11.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uruguay emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +40.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Colombia (+7.4 p.p.), Uruguay (+7.2 p.p.), Panama (+6.9 p.p.) and Brazil (+4.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-24.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest amine-function compounds supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Panama ($X) and Brazil ($X), together comprising 93% of total exports.
Panama, with a CAGR of +52.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Amine-Function Compounds Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, amine-function compounds imports in Latin America and the Caribbean expanded slightly to X tons, growing by 3.9% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 14%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, amine-function compounds imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) was the key importer of amine-function compounds, mixing up 51% of total imports. Mexico (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Colombia (11%) and Argentina (10%). The following importers - Guatemala (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) - each resulted at a 3.7% share of total imports.
Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of amine-function compounds. At the same time, Paraguay (+34.0%) and Colombia (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +34.0% from 2012-2021. Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Guatemala (-2.7%) and Argentina (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+6.8 p.p.), Colombia (+5.4 p.p.) and Mexico (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -12.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported amine-function compounds in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 10% share.
In Brazil, amine-function compounds imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+1.1% per year) and Colombia (+6.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
