Ammonia Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, overseas shipments of anhydrous ammonia increased by 5.8% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 46%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ammonia exports declined notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Trinidad and Tobago dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2022. Venezuela (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ammonia exports from Trinidad and Tobago stood at -3.3%. At the same time, Brazil (+15.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +15.1% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Trinidad and Tobago totaled -6.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+20.8% per year) and Venezuela (-9.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -22.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 95%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Ammonia Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, approx. X tons of anhydrous ammonia were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; increasing by 70% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a strong expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ammonia imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 80%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Chile (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) represented the key importers of anhydrous ammonia in 2022, recording near 38% and 36% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), comprising a 23% share of total imports. Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +11.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ammonia importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Mexico ($X), with a combined 96% share of total imports.
Brazil, with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
