The Latin American antimony market declined to $X in 2022, reducing by -7.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Antimony Production in Latin America and the Caribbean

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the fifth year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in overseas shipments of antimony, which increased by 62% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, antimony exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Peru (X tons) represented the key exporter of antimony, making up 46% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Bolivia (X tons) and Mexico (X tons), together making up a 49% share of total exports. The Dominican Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +427.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X) emerged as the largest antimony supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by the Dominican Republic, with a 7.1% share.

In Peru, antimony exports expanded at an average annual rate of +69.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bolivia (+0.1% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+469.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+10.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Antimony Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, purchases abroad of antimony increased by 3.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, antimony imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 127% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico represented the main importer of antimony in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 64% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), constituting a 25% share of total imports. The following importers - Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) - each recorded a 7.3% share of total imports.

Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+12.7%), Peru (+4.9%) and Colombia (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Argentina (-2.2%) and Brazil (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (-2.2 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest antimony importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Argentina ($X), with a combined 90% share of total imports. Colombia, Peru and the Dominican Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.2%.

Colombia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -2.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+11.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
