For the fourth consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in shipments abroad of antisera and other blood fractions, which decreased by -31.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a mild shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, antisera exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 40%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), distantly followed by Paraguay (X tons), Chile (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the key exporters of antisera and other blood fractions, together committing 93% of total exports. Costa Rica (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +39.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Costa Rica ($X) remains the largest antisera supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Uruguay, with a 5.7% share.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, antisera imports in Latin America and the Caribbean soared to X tons, jumping by 29% compared with 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, antisera imports rose to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antisera and other blood fractions in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 12% share.

In Brazil, antisera imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+3.5% per year) and Argentina (+2.0% per year).
