Stationery Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, the Latin American stationery market increased by 4.8% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after eight years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Stationery Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, stationery production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Stationery Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Stationery exports contracted to X tons in 2022, dropping by -13.9% against 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
Mexico represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 64% of total exports. Brazil (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (5.6%). El Salvador (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -5.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Guatemala (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012-2022. El Salvador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Costa Rica (-2.7%), Brazil (-4.3%), Ecuador (-6.6%) and Colombia (-16.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala and El Salvador increased by +7.2, +3.5, +3.3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest stationery supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 6.4% share.
In Mexico, stationery exports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-4.4% per year) and Guatemala (+3.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, overseas purchases of articles of stationery were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2022, Mexico (X tons), followed by Nicaragua (X tons), Chile (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main importers of articles of stationery, together achieving 54% of total imports. The following importers - El Salvador (X tons), Haiti (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Panama (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) - each accounted for a 27% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Nicaragua ($X) and Chile ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 42% of total imports.
Nicaragua, with a CAGR of +6.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($X per ton), while Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
