In value terms, orthopedic prosthetics exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.8% against 2020 indices. Costa Rica was the largest exporter of artificial parts of the body (excl. artificial teeth and dental fittings and artificial joints) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 71% of total exports in 2022. Mexico (X units) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (8.7%). Brazil (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to orthopedic prosthetics exports from Costa Rica stood at +5.4%. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, falling by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
