In 2022, shipments abroad of bambara beans increased by 7.7% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 167% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bambara bean exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 286%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bambara bean export price increased by +43.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 60%. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 246%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 73% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
