After four years of growth, purchases abroad of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs decreased by -24.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, battered fish fillet imports fell rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Colombia (X tons) represented the major importer of fish fillets in batter or breadcrumbs, mixing up 44% of total imports. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
