Beryl Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was growth in the Latin American beryl market, when its value increased by 1% to $X. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2017, the amount of beryl exported in Latin America and the Caribbean surged to X tons, rising by 131% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, beryl exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2017. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Exports by Country

The shipments of the one major exporters of beryl, namely Colombia, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of beryl. From 2013 to 2017, the share of Colombia increased by +99 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2017, shrinking by -84.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 a decrease of -35%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2017, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Colombia.

From 2013 to 2017, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Colombia amounted to 0.0% per year.

Beryl Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, approx. X tons of beryl were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; increasing by 4.3% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beryl imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 23%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Argentina represented the key importer of beryl in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 48% of total imports in 2021. Brazil (X kg) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by the Dominican Republic (14%) and Costa Rica (7.1%). The following importers - Mexico (X kg), El Salvador (X kg) and Peru (X kg) - each recorded an 8.2% share of total imports.

Argentina was also the fastest-growing in terms of the beryl imports, with a CAGR of +26.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. El Salvador and Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Costa Rica (-24.6%), Mexico (-26.9%) and Peru (-64.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Argentina (+44 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+11 p.p.), Brazil (+9.2 p.p.), El Salvador (+2.7 p.p.) and Peru (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-25.2 p.p.) and Costa Rica (-44.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest beryl importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Argentina ($X), Brazil ($X) and the Dominican Republic ($X), together comprising 76% of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +19.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was El Salvador ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
