In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest bleached sulphite pulp supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Costa Rica ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

In Chile, bleached sulphite pulp exports decreased by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2022.

In value terms, bleached sulphite pulp imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Mexico was the largest importer of bleached sulphite pulp in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 41% of total imports in 2022. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Cuba (11%), Peru (7.6%) and Argentina (7.2%). Chile (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of +26.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bleached sulphite pulp import price increased by +41.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 53% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Cuba ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
