The Latin American book cover market amounted to $X in 2022, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a deep contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Book cover exports plummeted to X tons in 2022, reducing by -48.4% compared with the year before. Overall, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, book cover exports plummeted to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 93% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), achieving a 23% share of total exports. The following exporters - Guatemala (X tons), Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) - each finished at a 6.1% share of total exports.

Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, El Salvador (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +3.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Guatemala (-9.1%), Trinidad and Tobago (-11.6%) and Brazil (-14.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Mexico increased by +40 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest book cover supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with a 3.5% share.

In Mexico, book cover exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-11.7% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (-13.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 54%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, imports of blotting pads and book covers in Latin America and the Caribbean declined modestly to X tons, dropping by -4.3% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
