The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Brazil (X tons), Bolivia (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together accounting for 100% of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +2.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the production figures.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, shipments abroad of brazil nuts increased by 3.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 126%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brazil nut exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons) was the main exporter of brazil nuts, comprising 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bolivia (X tons), constituting an 18% share of total exports.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bolivia (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bolivia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2022. Bolivia (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -10.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest brazil nut supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.
In Brazil, brazil nut exports plunged by an average annual rate of -4.4% over the period from 2012-2022.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while Brazil amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+2.7%).
Brazil Nut Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, the amount of brazil nuts imported in Latin America and the Caribbean reduced dramatically to X tons, shrinking by -48.5% on the year before. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 258% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
In value terms, brazil nut imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 392%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Peru represented the key importer of brazil nuts in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 87% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bolivia (X tons), committing a 12% share of total imports.
Peru was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brazil nuts imports, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012 to 2022. Bolivia (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Peru (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Bolivia saw its share reduced by -17.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Peru ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brazil nuts in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bolivia ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Peru stood at +13.4%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 22% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Bolivia stood at $X per ton.
