The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 18%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After four years of decline, overseas shipments of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 20%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Brazil (X tons) and Chile (X tons) represented the largest exporters of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides in Latin America and the Caribbean, together mixing up 80% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), comprising a 19% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +3.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 29% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Chile totaled +1.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-8.3% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (-3.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 49%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Trinidad and Tobago (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Bromides And Bromide Oxides, Iodides And Iodide Oxides
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, supplies from abroad of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides decreased by -52.9% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 121% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bromides, iodides and oxids thereof imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 107%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Trinidad and Tobago was the main importer of bromides and bromide oxides, iodides and iodide oxides in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Venezuela (X tons), Guyana (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together comprising a 37% share of total imports. Argentina (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Trinidad and Tobago increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Guyana (+113.3%), Venezuela (+37.3%), Colombia (+9.6%) and Argentina (+9.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guyana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +113.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brazil (-4.7%) and Mexico (-16.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Colombia and Argentina increased by +9.3, +9.3, +9.2, +2 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest bromides, iodides and oxids thereof importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Trinidad and Tobago ($X) and Colombia ($X), with a combined 70% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Guyana, Argentina, Venezuela and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 20%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Guyana, with a CAGR of +106.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
