The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +100.4% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Brazil was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 68% of total exports. Mexico (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Chile (9.8%). Guatemala (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden joinery and carpentry exports from Brazil stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Mexico (+13.9%) and Guatemala (+7.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +13.9% from 2012-2021. Chile experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Brazil (+9.2 p.p.) and Mexico (+5.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Chile saw its share reduced by -8.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to +11.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (+15.9% per year) and Chile (+3.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, purchases abroad of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons), followed by Panama (X tons), Chile (X tons), Bahamas (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Jamaica (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the key importers of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood, together committing 55% of total imports. Uruguay (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Peru (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Honduras (X tons) and the Dominican Republic (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +38.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Bahamas ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 37% of total imports. These countries were followed by Panama, Colombia, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Uruguay, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru and Honduras, which together accounted for a further 38%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Panama, with a CAGR of +37.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
