The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, calcareous building stone exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Dominican Republic represented the key exporter of calcareous building stone in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 42% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Guatemala (17%) and Mexico (15%). Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from the Dominican Republic decreased at an average annual rate of -10.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+13.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +13.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Guatemala (-2.4%), Mexico (-3.6%) and Brazil (-24.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Guatemala (+17 p.p.), Argentina (+15 p.p.) and Mexico (+6.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Dominican Republic and Brazil saw its share reduced by -6% and -7.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the Dominican Republic ($X) remains the largest calcareous building stone supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 9.6% share.

In the Dominican Republic, calcareous building stone exports declined by an average annual rate of -10.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-3.1% per year) and Argentina (-2.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 46%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, calcareous building stone imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
