Mexico was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 73% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), making up a 24% share of total exports.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carbon brushes exports, with a CAGR of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021. Brazil experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Mexico (+8.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -5.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest carbon brush supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 20% share of total exports.

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas purchases of carbon brushes increased by 39% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Imports by Country

Mexico represented the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 55% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Chile (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 21% share of total imports. The following importers - Peru (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carbon brush imports into Mexico stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Peru (+5.7%), Costa Rica (+5.5%), Argentina (+4.5%), Brazil (+3.7%) and Chile (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-1.7%) and Ecuador (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Peru increased by +4.7 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbon brushes in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico totaled +2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+3.8% per year) and Chile (+3.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
