In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, when their volume increased by 95% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild descent. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic household article exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X tons) represented the major exporter of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, making up 53% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together mixing up a 43% share of total exports. Guatemala (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Brazil (+6.7%), Chile (+5.4%), Guatemala (+3.9%) and Colombia (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and Chile increased by +27, +8.7, +8.2 and +2.2 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest ceramic household article supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 12% share.

In Mexico, ceramic household article exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Colombia (+3.0% per year) and Brazil (+2.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -25.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, ceramic household article export price decreased by -31.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 33%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, supplies from abroad of ceramic household articles and toilet articles increased by 36% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic household article imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight slump. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X tons), distantly followed by Peru (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Chile (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) represented the largest importers of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, together mixing up 77% of total imports. The Dominican Republic (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Argentina (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +19.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 54% of total imports. Peru, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +17.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
