Ceramic Tile Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin American ceramic tile market shrank slightly to $X in 2022, declining by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a slight decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Ceramic Tile Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, exports of ceramic tiles in Latin America and the Caribbean declined to X square meters, falling by -3.8% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 56%. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports amounted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +39.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X square meters) and Brazil (X square meters) dominates exports structure, together constituting 84% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X square meters), generating a 6.7% share of total exports. Argentina (X square meters) and Guatemala (X square meters) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Peru ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 88% of total exports.
Mexico, with a CAGR of +5.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per square meter in 2022, growing by 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per square meter), while Argentina ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (-0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Ceramic Tile Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, ceramic tile imports in Latin America and the Caribbean dropped to X square meters, with a decrease of -12.7% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, ceramic tile imports amounted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +119.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 115%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Mexico was the main importer of ceramic tiles in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports reaching X square meters, which was near 30% of total imports in 2022. The Dominican Republic (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X square meters), Peru (X square meters) and Colombia (X square meters). All these countries together held near 36% share of total imports. El Salvador (X square meters), Argentina (X square meters), Honduras (X square meters), Guatemala (X square meters), Costa Rica (X square meters), Ecuador (X square meters), Panama (X square meters) and Paraguay (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic tile imports into Mexico stood at +16.7%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+24.8%), El Salvador (+17.5%), Guatemala (+16.2%), Argentina (+9.7%), Honduras (+8.6%), Chile (+5.8%), Peru (+5.1%), Panama (+3.8%), Costa Rica (+3.4%) and Paraguay (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +24.8% from 2012-2022. Ecuador experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Colombia (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+19 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+12 p.p.), El Salvador (+2.6 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Colombia saw its share reduced by -8.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ceramic tiles in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 27% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico amounted to +14.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Dominican Republic (+18.7% per year) and Chile (+3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per square meter, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($X per square meter), while Honduras ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
