Cereal Germ Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin American cereal germ market shrank to $X in 2021, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Cereal Germ Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, cereal germ production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.
Cereal Germ Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of cereal germ increased by 97% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 224% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cereal germ exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Argentina represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 57% of total exports. Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Brazil (9.2%). Guatemala (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cereal germ exports from Argentina stood at -4.0%. At the same time, Trinidad and Tobago (+86.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Trinidad and Tobago emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +86.1% from 2012-2021. Guatemala experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Brazil (-1.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Trinidad and Tobago (+25 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina saw its share reduced by -11.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Trinidad and Tobago ($X), Argentina ($X) and Guatemala ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 83% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Trinidad and Tobago, with a CAGR of +59.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 77%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Cereal Germ Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, overseas purchases of cereal germ decreased by -7.8% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cereal germ imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Chile was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 36% of total imports. Colombia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Trinidad and Tobago (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Cayman Islands (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 55% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cayman Islands (with a CAGR of +58.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Colombia ($X), Trinidad and Tobago ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Brazil and Cayman Islands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
Among the main importing countries, Cayman Islands, with a CAGR of +22.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -5.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 67%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton), while Cayman Islands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
