Other Cereals Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Latin American other cereals market surged to $X in 2021, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -17.7% against 2019 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Other Cereals Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, other cereals production reduced sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 192%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2021 were Chile (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons), together accounting for 73% of total production. Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Nicaragua lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Mexico (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average other cereals yield expanded to X tons per ha in 2021, picking up by 4.6% against the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2015; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2021, approx. X ha of other cerealses were harvested in Latin America and the Caribbean; leveling off at 2020 figures. Overall, the harvested area recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the harvested area increased by 5.6%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, shipments abroad of other cerealses decreased by -11.1% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals exports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 89%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Peru represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bolivia (X tons), achieving a 34% share of total exports. Ecuador (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +17.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest other cereals supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Peru ($X), Bolivia ($X) and Ecuador ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.
Peru, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, waning by -14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (-1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Other Cereals Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, imports of other cerealses in Latin America and the Caribbean declined significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -18.3% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 31%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, other cereals imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Chile (X tons), distantly followed by Brazil (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) represented the largest importers of other cerealses, together making up 71% of total imports. Costa Rica (X tons), Uruguay (X tons), Panama (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Jamaica (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Peru (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +75.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Chile ($X), Brazil ($X) and Argentina ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 61% share of total imports. Panama, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, Peru and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Panama, with a CAGR of +98.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+13.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
