Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

The exports totaled X tons in 2018, lowering by -X% against the previous year. In general, coin exports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, coin exports attained their peak of X tons. From 2010 to 2018, the growth of coin exports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, coin exports stood at $X in 2018. Over the period under review, coin exports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, coin exports reached their maximum at $X in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile dominates coin exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2018. Mexico (X kg) held a minor share of total exports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the coins exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Mexico (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Chile (+X p.p.) and Mexico (+X p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) emerged as the largest coin supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total coin exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Chile ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico amounted to +X%.

Export Prices by Country

The coin export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2018, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the coin export price, however, continues to indicate a drastic contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export price peaked at $X per ton in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Chile totaled $X per ton.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico.

Coin Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

The imports stood at X tons in 2018, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, coin imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, coin imports reached their peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2018, the growth of coin imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, coin imports stood at $X in 2018. Over the period under review, coin imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of imports peaked in 2018 and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Bahamas (X tons), distantly followed by Saint Kitts and Nevis (X tons), Suriname (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Haiti (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) were the main importers of coins, together achieving X% of total imports. Guyana (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Bahamas (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Guatemala ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported coins in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total coin imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Costa Rica ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Suriname, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value in Guatemala amounted to +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Costa Rica (+X% per year) and Suriname (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The coin import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2018, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the coin import price continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, the import prices for coins attained their peak level and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while Bahamas ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala, while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
