Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Vapour power unit exports contracted dramatically to X tons in 2021, which is down by -53% compared with 2020. Overall, exports saw a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 58%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vapour power unit exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mexico (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) dominates exports structure, together achieving 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X kg), committing a 6.1% share of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X kg) and Peru (X kg) - together made up 6.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Peru (with a CAGR of +26.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) emerged as the largest vapour power unit supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Chile, with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico amounted to -16.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (-6.3% per year) and Chile (-12.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 95% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, the amount of condensers for steam or other vapour power units imported in Latin America and the Caribbean skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 96% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 250%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, vapour power unit imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 889% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico was the key importer of condensers for steam or other vapour power units in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 52% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Ecuador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons), together committing a 30% share of total imports. Colombia (X tons), Barbados (X tons) and Nicaragua (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -10.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Barbados (+45.5%) and Ecuador (+17.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Barbados emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +45.5% from 2012-2021. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Nicaragua (-2.8%) and Brazil (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ecuador (+17 p.p.), Barbados (+2.5 p.p.) and Colombia (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mexico saw its share reduced by -18.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), Ecuador ($X) and Brazil ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 86% of total imports. Nicaragua, Colombia and Barbados lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.8%.

Barbados, with a CAGR of +26.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -2.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 188%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Barbados ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
