Exports by Country

Honduras (X units) and Argentina (X units) represented roughly 58% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Dominican Republic (X units), generating an 18% share of total exports. Costa Rica (X units), Mexico (X units), Guatemala (X units), Jamaica (X units), Colombia (X units), Uruguay (X units) and Ecuador (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +61.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest condom supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Honduras ($X), Argentina ($X) and Costa Rica ($X), together comprising 67% of total exports. These countries were followed by Mexico, Jamaica, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uruguay, which together accounted for a further 25%.

Among the main exporting countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +36.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per thousand units, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per thousand units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per thousand units), while the Dominican Republic ($X per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, condom imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
