Transport Container Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

Transport Container Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, transport container production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 32%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Transport Container Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, shipments abroad of transport containers decreased by -25.5% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 167% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transport container exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 296%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil represented the major exporter of transport containers in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was near 51% of total exports in 2022. Mexico (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Chile (X units). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total exports. The following exporters - Argentina (X units), Trinidad and Tobago (X units) and Nicaragua (X units) - each recorded a 6.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nicaragua (with a CAGR of +90.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest transport container supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico stood at -5.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+2.4% per year) and Trinidad and Tobago (+31.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, surging by 81% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 846%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Trinidad and Tobago ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+29.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Transport Container Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, supplies from abroad of transport containers increased by 18% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transport container imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Mexico (X units), distantly followed by Chile (X units), Panama (X units) and Brazil (X units) were the major importers of transport containers, together mixing up 74% of total imports. The following importers - Argentina (X units), Peru (X units), Uruguay (X units), Barbados (X units), Aruba (X units), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (X units) and Colombia (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Aruba (with a CAGR of +41.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Panama ($X), Chile ($X) and Mexico ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 54% share of total imports. Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, Barbados, Aruba and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Aruba, with a CAGR of +33.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, declining by -18.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per unit), while Saint Vincent and the Grenadines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
