In 2021, overseas shipments of copper tubes, pipes and fitting increased by 15% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper pipe and fitting exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico represented the major exporter of copper tubes, pipes and fitting in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 74% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), constituting a 23% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to copper pipe and fitting exports from Mexico stood at -3.6%. At the same time, Brazil (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012-2021. Brazil (+11 p.p.) and Mexico (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest copper pipe and fitting supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.
In Mexico, copper pipe and fitting exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.8% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Brazil amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+0.8%).
Imports of Copper Tubes, Pipes And Fitting
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper tubes, pipes and fitting was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X tons) was the largest importer of copper tubes, pipes and fitting, constituting 46% of total imports. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by Argentina (10%), Chile (9%) and Colombia (4.9%). The following importers - Peru (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.5% share of total imports.
Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of copper tubes, pipes and fitting. At the same time, Chile (+7.4%) and Peru (+2.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +7.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Ecuador (-1.1%), Argentina (-1.2%), Brazil (-2.7%) and Colombia (-3.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+4.3 p.p.) and Mexico (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Colombia (-1.7 p.p.) and Brazil (-4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported copper tubes, pipes and fitting in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with an 11% share.
In Mexico, copper pipe and fitting imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-1.3% per year) and Argentina (+1.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Argentina ($X per ton) and Brazil ($X per ton), while Ecuador ($X per ton) and Colombia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
