Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +18.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cuba (-4.4%), Chile (-4.9%), Ecuador (-7.3%), Colombia (-10.8%), Brazil (-11.3%), Bolivia (-14.7%) and Peru (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+13 p.p.), the Dominican Republic (+4.4 p.p.), Panama (+2.6 p.p.), Argentina (+2.3 p.p.), Paraguay (+2.1 p.p.), Uruguay (+1.8 p.p.) and Chile (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru saw its share reduced by -2%, -2.8%, -4.8% and -11.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest crawler dozer importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Chile ($X) and Brazil ($X), with a combined 63% share of total imports. Peru, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Panama, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

Panama, with a CAGR of +91.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -4.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 22%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Bolivia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+71.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
