Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X tons of dental fittings were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; jumping by 16% compared with 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +60.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The purchases of the four major importers of dental fittings, namely Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Guatemala, represented more than half of total import. Colombia, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guyana lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

Panama, with a CAGR of +64.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Guyana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
