Desktop Computer Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, after six years of decline, there was significant growth in the Latin American desktop computer market, when its value increased by 7.6% to $X. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Desktop Computer Production in Latin America and the Caribbean
In value terms, desktop computer production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 18%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Desktop Computer Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, exports of desktop computers in Latin America and the Caribbean skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 19% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 153% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, desktop computer exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 89% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by El Salvador (X units), comprising a 6% share of total exports. Chile (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from Mexico stood at -12.2%. At the same time, El Salvador (+7.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +7.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Chile (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. El Salvador (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mexico saw its share reduced by -2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest desktop computer supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.
In Mexico, desktop computer exports plunged by an average annual rate of -12.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (-20.6% per year) and El Salvador (+12.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -13.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Desktop Computer Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, purchases abroad of desktop computers was finally on the rise to reach X units after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, desktop computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
El Salvador was the main importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at 53% of total imports. Mexico (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Brazil (17%). The following importers - Chile (X units) and Colombia (X units) - each recorded a 6% share of total imports.
El Salvador was also the fastest-growing in terms of the desktop computers imports, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Colombia (-1.1%), Mexico (-1.1%) and Brazil (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. El Salvador (+22 p.p.) and Mexico (+3.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -23.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported desktop computers in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with an 8.5% share.
In Mexico, desktop computer imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (-14.7% per year) and Colombia (-4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, waning by -21.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 41% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
