Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -23.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+61.7%), Colombia (+25.9%), Costa Rica (+22.7%) and Guatemala (+18.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +61.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uruguay (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala increased by +39, +4.4, +4.4, +2.5, +2.2 and +1.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest diethanolamine supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil amounted to -24.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uruguay (-2.0% per year) and Colombia (+25.9% per year).

For the third year in a row, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in overseas purchases of diethanolamine and its salts, which decreased by -0.4% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
