Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, overseas shipments of direction finding compasses were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, direction finding compass exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil represented the key exporter of direction finding compasses in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 63% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X units), committing a 21% share of total exports. The following exporters - Colombia (X units) and Ecuador (X units) - together made up 6.4% of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +40.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Ecuador (+45.7%) and Colombia (+42.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +45.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mexico (-31.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador increased by +63, +4.3 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) emerged as the largest direction finding compass supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 0.8% share.

In Brazil, direction finding compass exports expanded at an average annual rate of +53.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (-28.3% per year) and Colombia (+42.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 80% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, approx. X units of direction finding compasses were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; picking up by 3.2% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, direction finding compass imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, El Salvador (X units) was the major importer of direction finding compasses, comprising 51% of total imports. Brazil (X units) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (5%), Mexico (4.9%), Argentina (4.9%) and Chile (4.8%). Peru (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

El Salvador was also the fastest-growing in terms of the direction finding compasses imports, with a CAGR of +42.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Peru (-2.1%), Colombia (-4.8%), Brazil (-5.7%), Mexico (-7.7%) and Argentina (-10.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of El Salvador increased by +48 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest direction finding compass importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 59% of total imports.

Chile, with a CAGR of +2.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+13.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
