In 2021, the Latin American disperse dye market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Disperse dye exports shrank significantly to X tons in 2021, waning by -51% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, disperse dye exports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 38%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Mexico (X tons) represented the main exporter of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon, generating 45% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Honduras (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Panama (X tons), together making up a 38% share of total exports. Nicaragua (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Mexico decreased at an average annual rate of -4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, El Salvador (+20.3%), Honduras (+16.8%) and Guatemala (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +20.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Panama (-17.0%), Brazil (-23.5%) and Nicaragua (-29.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mexico (+25 p.p.), Honduras (+17 p.p.), El Salvador (+3.2 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Panama (-5.7 p.p.), Nicaragua (-20.5 p.p.) and Brazil (-23.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest disperse dye supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Honduras ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Panama, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled -2.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Honduras (+22.7% per year) and Panama (-13.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Nicaragua ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, disperse dye imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Honduras (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Honduras ($X), Brazil ($X) and Mexico ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 67% of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Honduras, with a CAGR of +16.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -13.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
