The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +110.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +67.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Mexico (X tons) was the main exporter of plastic tableware and kitchenware, constituting 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Dominican Republic (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons), together creating a 28% share of total exports. Peru (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic tableware and kitchenware exports from Mexico stood at +9.3%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+19.9%), Brazil (+2.8%) and El Salvador (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +19.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Peru (-1.5%), Colombia (-3.0%) and Guatemala (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Dominican Republic (+15 p.p.) and Mexico (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while El Salvador, Colombia, Peru and Guatemala saw its share reduced by -3.5%, -3.8%, -4.2% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X), the Dominican Republic ($X) and El Salvador ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 79% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +23.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, falling by -17.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 3.9%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras and Jamaica lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

The Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +15.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per ton), while Jamaica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
