Dolomite Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American dolomite market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. In 2021, approx. X tons of dolomite were exported in Latin America and the Caribbean; with an increase of 8.8% on the previous year. In general, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 130% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 81%. Exports by Country

Brazil was the major exporter of dolomite in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Guatemala (10%). Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dolomite exports from Brazil stood at +9.8%. At the same time, Colombia (+37.1%) and Guatemala (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +37.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Brazil and Colombia increased by +18 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Argentina ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 97% share of total exports. Colombia lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 2.4%.

Colombia, with a CAGR of +37.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 14% against the previous year. Export price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, dolomite export price increased by +85.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 70%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+14.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Dolomite imports amounted to X tons in 2021, rising by 11% on the previous year. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +18.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil (X tons) and Paraguay (X tons) represented roughly 80% of total imports in 2021. Chile (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Costa Rica (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
