In value terms, wood flat pallet production expanded markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -1.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.
Wood Flat Pallet Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, shipments abroad of flat pallets and pallet collars of wood decreased by -24.8% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 110% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood flat pallet exports reached $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -0.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X units) and Brazil (X units) were the main exporters of flat pallets and pallet collars of wood in 2021, reaching approx. 33% and 33% of total exports, respectively. Guatemala (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Costa Rica (X units). All these countries together held approx. 29% share of total exports. Chile (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +28.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest wood flat pallet supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Costa Rica ($X), with a combined 79% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of +16.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable downturn. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Wood Flat Pallet Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2021, overseas purchases of flat pallets and pallet collars of wood decreased by -8.7% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wood flat pallet imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.9% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Mexico (X units) was the main importer of flat pallets and pallet collars of wood, comprising 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Honduras (X units), Panama (X units), Guatemala (X units) and El Salvador (X units), together constituting a 40% share of total imports. The following importers - Costa Rica (X units) and Argentina (X units) - each finished at a 3.7% share of total imports.
Imports into Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Panama (+32.5%), Argentina (+28.8%), Honduras (+18.4%), Guatemala (+14.5%) and El Salvador (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Panama emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +32.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Costa Rica (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Honduras (+9.4 p.p.), Panama (+9 p.p.), Guatemala (+4.6 p.p.) and El Salvador (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-4.1 p.p.) and Costa Rica (-9.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flat pallets and pallet collars of wood in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Honduras ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Panama, with a 9.9% share.
In Mexico, wood flat pallet imports increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Honduras (+19.2% per year) and Panama (+32.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while El Salvador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
