The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -3.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 22%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, meat meals and pellets exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the main exporter of flours, meals and pellets of meat or meat offal in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2021. Paraguay (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (13%) and Uruguay (11%). Nicaragua (X tons) and Chile (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Argentina (+17.3%), Paraguay (+9.2%) and Chile (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Argentina emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2021. Nicaragua experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Uruguay (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+11 p.p.), Argentina (+8.1 p.p.) and Paraguay (+3.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Nicaragua (-2.2 p.p.) and Uruguay (-11.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest meat meals and pellets supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled +9.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uruguay (-1.0% per year) and Paraguay (+8.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 26% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of flours, meals and pellets of meat or meat offal in Latin America and the Caribbean surged to X tons, increasing by 45% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

While the share of Colombia (+14 p.p.), Ecuador (+8.3 p.p.), Brazil (+5.1 p.p.), Peru (+3.5 p.p.) and Honduras (+3.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Chile (-3.6 p.p.) and Mexico (-28.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported flours, meals and pellets of meat or meat offal in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Colombia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Ecuador, with a 12% share.
