After three years of decline, overseas purchases of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts increased by 21% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, complex fluorine salts imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 30%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil was the main importer of fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 56% of total imports in 2021. Venezuela (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Argentina (13%) and Mexico (7.7%). Chile (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -7.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Chile (+5.9%) and Venezuela (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2021. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mexico (-1.1%) and Argentina (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Venezuela (+9.2 p.p.), Argentina (+2.2 p.p.), Mexico (+2 p.p.) and Chile (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Brazil (-16.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorides, fluorosilicates, fluoroaluminates and other complex fluorine salts in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at -7.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Argentina (-2.6% per year) and Mexico (+1.6% per year).
