Overall, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 122% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 77% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), achieving a 7.3% share of total exports. The following exporters - Aruba (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) - together made up 12% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Mexico stood at -13.3%. At the same time, Guatemala (+87.2%), Ecuador (+15.5%), Aruba (+11.6%) and Brazil (+11.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Guatemala emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +87.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Costa Rica (-11.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+6.4 p.p.), Aruba (+4.2 p.p.), Ecuador (+2.8 p.p.) and Guatemala (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-16.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Costa Rica, with a 2.1% share.
In Mexico, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports plunged by an average annual rate of -13.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+10.9% per year) and Costa Rica (-16.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -29.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 65%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports expanded notably to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +13.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled +3.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+0.1% per year) and Argentina (+2.9% per year).
