The Latin American market for fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines rose significantly to $X in 2021, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the market value increased by 7.6%. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 9.1%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -1.7% to X tons in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Chile was the largest exporter of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 40% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Colombia (X tons), Uruguay (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Mexico (X tons), together constituting a 55% share of total exports. Paraguay (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Paraguay (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X) remains the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 1.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Colombia, with a 0.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Chile amounted to -4.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-0.6% per year) and Colombia (+9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Colombia (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

Fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports reached X tons in 2021, approximately mirroring 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports reached $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Brazil (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Panama (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Jamaica (X tons) represented the main importer of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 86% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Panama (with a CAGR of +43.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Dominican Republic ($X), with a 4.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Jamaica, with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil totaled -5.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Dominican Republic (+5.7% per year) and Jamaica (+4.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
