The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fluorspar exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Mexico (X tons) represented roughly 100% of total exports in 2021.

Mexico was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fluorspar exports, with a CAGR of -12.4% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) also remains the largest fluorspar supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Mexico amounted to -8.7%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -20.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 72% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Mexico.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Mexico amounted to +4.2% per year.

Fluorspar Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, supplies from abroad of fluorspar was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fluorspar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Guatemala (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) was the key importer of fluorspar in Latin America and the Caribbean, mixing up 74% of total import. It was distantly followed by Honduras (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons), together generating a 15% share of total imports. Mexico (X tons) and Panama (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +40.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Ecuador ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 74% of total imports. Honduras, El Salvador, Mexico and Panama lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Mexico, with a CAGR of +25.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Panama ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
