The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +86.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The purchases of the four major importers of non-self-propelled fork-lift trucks, namely Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Argentina, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Colombia (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Peru (X units). All these countries together took approx. 9.6% share of total imports. In value terms, Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Argentina ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 46% of total imports. Chile, Colombia, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Guatemala, Ecuador, Trinidad and Tobago and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

The Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +16.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per unit), while Uruguay ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
