Coin Game Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the fourth year in a row, the Latin American coin game market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -22.5% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a deep slump. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Coin Game Production in Latin America and the Caribbean

In value terms, coin game production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 59%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of games operated by coins, banknotes or discs increased by 101% to X units in 2021. Total exports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, coin game exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mexico prevails in exports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 94% of total exports in 2021. Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to coin game exports from Mexico stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Peru (+18.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Peru increased by +2.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest coin game supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled +5.6%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 5.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, coin game export price decreased by -4.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Peru ($X per unit), while Mexico amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+17.3%).

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the fourth consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in purchases abroad of games operated by coins, banknotes or discs, which decreased by -16.8% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, coin game imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 15%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico prevails in imports structure, reaching X units, which was approx. 58% of total imports in 2021. Colombia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.6% share, followed by Guatemala (6.5%) and Peru (4.7%). The following importers - Argentina (X units), Panama (X units) and Paraguay (X units) - together made up 9.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to coin game imports into Mexico stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Paraguay (+3.9%) and Guatemala (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +3.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Colombia (-9.0%), Panama (-11.7%), Peru (-21.8%) and Argentina (-22.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (+27 p.p.), Guatemala (+4.3 p.p.) and Paraguay (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina and Peru saw its share reduced by -11.1% and -12.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported games operated by coins, banknotes or discs in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Colombia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 6.9% share.

In Mexico, coin game imports declined by an average annual rate of -5.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Colombia (-13.2% per year) and Argentina (-21.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -15.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per unit), while Guatemala ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
