Ginger Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

After six years of growth, shipments abroad of ginger decreased by -6.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 89%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, ginger exports fell notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 112% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Peru represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), mixing up a 28% share of total exports. Costa Rica (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Peru was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ginger exports, with a CAGR of +40.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Brazil (+22.7%) and Costa Rica (+13.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Peru increased by +35 percentage points.

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -12.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 33%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Brazil (6.7%) and Uruguay (4.6%). Guatemala (X tons), Mexico (X tons), El Salvador (X tons), Barbados (X tons) and Jamaica (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Argentina totaled +27.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (+8.7% per year) and Jamaica (+6.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
