By contrast, Mexico (-7.6%) and Argentina (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Jamaica (+34 p.p.) and Guatemala (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina and Mexico saw its share reduced by -18.5% and -18.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest monumental stone granules and powder supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Jamaica ($X), Mexico ($X) and Guatemala ($X), together accounting for 87% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of +47.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, monumental stone granules and powder imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Chile ($X), Argentina ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Argentina, with a CAGR of +39.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($X per ton), while Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
