Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, overseas shipments of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals decreased by -0.8% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 9.8%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, animal guts exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Brazil represented the key exporter of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2022. Argentina (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Uruguay (8.1%) and Paraguay (7.9%). Mexico (X tons), Nicaragua (X tons) and Chile (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Brazil decreased at an average annual rate of -1.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nicaragua (+8.3%), Paraguay (+7.0%), Mexico (+3.8%), Uruguay (+2.0%) and Argentina (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nicaragua emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Paraguay (+3.9 p.p.), Argentina (+2.3 p.p.) and Uruguay (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Brazil saw its share reduced by -9.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest animal guts supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 9.2% share.
In Brazil, animal guts exports declined by an average annual rate of -5.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uruguay (-1.6% per year) and Paraguay (+4.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -15.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Animal Guts Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, overseas purchases of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals increased by 0.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, animal guts imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mexico was the major importer of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together constituting a 19% share of total imports. Paraguay (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to animal guts imports into Mexico stood at +1.1%. At the same time, Paraguay (+24.8%) and Chile (+9.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Paraguay emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +24.8% from 2012-2022. Brazil and Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Peru (-2.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Paraguay increased by +2.9 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest animal guts importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Mexico ($X), Brazil ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 88% of total imports. Peru, Argentina and Paraguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.8%.
Among the main importing countries, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +23.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, animal guts import price decreased by -29.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Peru ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
