Hair Curler Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American hair curler market fell to $X in 2022, waning by -10% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, shipments abroad of hair curlers and curling tongs increased by 64% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 77%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hair curler exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. Brazil was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 59% of total exports. Mexico (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 19% share, followed by Costa Rica (8.1%). Chile (X units), Argentina (X units), Panama (X units) and Peru (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hair curler exports from Brazil stood at +22.0%. At the same time, Peru (+29.2%) and Costa Rica (+22.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +29.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-4.7%), Mexico (-12.6%), Argentina (-30.1%) and Panama (-34.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+57 p.p.), Costa Rica (+7.8 p.p.), Mexico (+2.8 p.p.), Chile (+2.5 p.p.) and Peru (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Argentina and Panama saw its share reduced by -19.8% and -36.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 94% of total exports.

Brazil, with a CAGR of +31.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per unit), while Argentina ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+40.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, approx. X units of hair curlers and curling tongs were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; with a decrease of -12.7% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per unit), while Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
