In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of hand sieves and hand riddles, when their volume decreased by -34.3% to X units. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hand sieve exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the major exporter of hand sieves and hand riddles, generating 53% of total exports. Panama (X units) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (18%). The following exporters - Mexico (X units) and the Dominican Republic (X units) - each reached a 3.7% share of total exports.

Exports from Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+304.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +304.4% from 2012-2022. Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Panama (-22.3%) and Mexico (-29.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Brazil (+45 p.p.), Colombia (+13 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Mexico and Panama saw its share reduced by -14.3% and -46.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Brazil ($X), Panama ($X) and Colombia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 90% of total exports. The Dominican Republic and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 6.7%.

Among the main exporting countries, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +284.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per unit), while Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+14.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, overseas purchases of hand sieves and hand riddles decreased by -35.1% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, hand sieve imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the key importer of hand sieves and hand riddles in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 47% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Panama (X units), Chile (X units), Nicaragua (X units), Ecuador (X units) and Mexico (X units), together comprising a 34% share of total imports. Peru (X units), Paraguay (X units) and Argentina (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nicaragua (+25.9%), Peru (+14.1%), Ecuador (+9.4%), Paraguay (+5.6%) and Argentina (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nicaragua emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (-1.7%), Panama (-7.8%) and Mexico (-11.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Brazil, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Peru increased by +25, +6.1, +4 and +2.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hand sieves and hand riddles in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Peru ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with a 12% share.

In Brazil, hand sieve imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+15.7% per year) and Chile (-1.8% per year).
